Robert's Crossbow - the Western

Various views. The color seems to be out of whack on the first several photos. Look at the last three to get a better indication of the finish.  This is the prototype for that Western model.  The customer wanted an 'old' look, so I tried a dark red mahogany stain over cherry.  Also, the corners on this one were not rounded with a roundover bit (my usual method) but simply eased a bit with 80-grit sandpaper.  I think this really helped keep the straight lines crisp.  The tickler is a new style, too.  I wanted something a little closer to a period tickler without (a) messing up a good rising pin design, and (b) having the bolt descend and extra 2 or three inches, which would aesthetically unpleasing.  I am very content with the compromise shown here, and may try it on some of the other models, too.
